Savage & DJ Chill Presents "Building The Foundation" Review

    Reviewed on 3.19.2008

Watz good Savage, my big dawg!! It’s yo boy Frankie. It’s finally about fuckin’ time I get to this! I’m doin’ it a lil’ early tonight ‘cause maybe at 9:00 PM, I finally might start gettin’ my rappin’ grandma to vocalize tha new song I wrote for her. It gon be REAL HOT! Anyway, here goes my review for Savage & DJ Chill Presents “Building The Foundation”! By tha way, somebody on tha WordofSouth board mentioned it: they wanted this in mp3 format (‘cause it’s in m4a format), so I’m convertin’ it now, and when I post this online, I finna post this mixtape all ova tha place in mp3 format, labeled and everythang for my boy Savage! Start Time: 7:25 PM | Video Game Playing: Super Mario RPG (for Super Nintendo) (on my computer)

    01. “All Day”
Got a VERY HIGH AL (anticipation level) for this since it’s tha start of a classic that I predict! Definitely lookin’ forward to it as well as if it has a “Savage on tha beat!” intro in tha beginning! >>> Nope it didn’t have that intro, but a nice start. Reminds me of a Three 6 Mafia type of intro. Okay very good hook. Love it already. I like tha “catch me wit a 100 100’s” line. Yeah “like Webbie say,” you “do it big!” I feel ya on that dawg. That hook iz tha truth to anyone that wants to stay fresh and keep it pimpin’. Yeah you definitely “stay sharper than an African spear” <- what a fuckin’ hot line right there! VERY GOOD start (as I predicted)! My Rating: 4.7

    02. “Show My Ass” Feat. Young Ready
That’s real cool that you got Young Ready on this joint. Free that fuckin’ dude already! But yeah, another High AL for this one. Savage neva disappoints! >>> Not bad for a start. Sounds good. “Fuck hoes wit no strategy” <- that’s tha way to do it. Yeah Young Ready, your verse was real tight. You definitely “blow like dynamite” when it comes to rappin’ (and I liked that line as well). Can’t wait for Savage to do tha 2nd verse! Those 2 lines “rocks in my ears lookin’ like tha appellations” and “chain sick; shinin’ like some ruby radiations” were a way of definitely definin’ fresh! Yeah Savage you had a nice verse too. Startin’ to really like that hook too. Great 1st ½ of tha 3rd verse by Young Ready. “On some thangz got us sittin’ tall as a giraffe back. I’m a walkin’ iHop, I flip them hoes like flapjacks” <- Great 2 lines again by Savage. Not just a great producer, but you rap good too. My Rating: 4.6

    03. “V.I.P.” Feat. B-Real & Lakeith
Okay I heard these names from various Louisiana mixtapes. And now B-Real iz takin’ ova tha production work on this one. Let’s see how he does. Still got a High AL! >>> Okay production iz pretty good. Hook ain’t that bad. Gotta feel this club banger. Not bad 1st verse. It was jammin’ ‘cause of that nice beat. Yeah Savage on tha 2nd verse! I like that “Look, swear I’m at tha circus how this nigga act a clown” line. It came outta nowhere. “Hard like Viagra pills” <- another good line. Savage RIPPED IT!! On tha 3rd verse, I like that “I’m too damn hot, somebody put me in tha coola” line. I’m actually likin’ tha song a lot better now. Thanx Savage for that boost! My Rating: 4.3

    04. “Show Me My Opponent”
I remember goin’ onto your Myspace and this played. I heard tha first millisecond of it, and it sounded like tha Lil’ Wayne sample of “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy”. I don’t think I heard it (even tho I heard 2 jointz wit that sample), but VERY HIGH AL!!! >>> I guess since it didn’t do it, I’ll do tha honors: ”Savage on tha beat!” Savage, you start tha song off wit a TIGHT line: “Yeah, I’m starvin’ like an Ethiopian.” Damn you a fuckin’ beast Savage! You “takin’ everything” anyone has ‘cause you gotta eat. Another tight line: “devour shit like I’m a raptor from Jurassic Park” <- REAL TIGHT! Devour them hataz!! I could’ve played Jurassic Park (for either Super Nintendo or Nintendo on my computer), but I didn’t feel like it. I haven’t played that in a real long minute. Yeah I gotta agree wit you on this part in tha beginning of tha 2nd verse: “look, everybody tough guys, niggaz spittin’ reckless. Sparkin’ fake beefs, usin’ 50 Cent methods.” <- Yeah these “fake beefs” gotta end that are out there! Real good 2nd verse right there! Yeah Savage, you definitely “bringin’ somethin’ classic.” I feel you on that. Great shit right here! My Rating: 4.7

    05. “Rock Like Me”
Gonna see what this gon bring. High AL again ‘cause I know dudes that are hatin’ definitely can’t “rock like you” ‘cause they don’t try hard enough! >>> Another great beat you did here! Really feelin’ that beat intro!! Yeah I was right about what I was sayin’ right before I started listenin’ to this: tha haterz can’t “rock like you”. Good 1st verse. It reminds me of a different version of “Umma Do Me” (and right when I saw tha ID, it reminded me of “Umma Do Me”; how weird). Gotta love these songs that are about yourself and not bein’ like anyone else/everyone else tryin’ copy you, but they fail. “Ya’ll below tha Earth, I’m ‘outta space’ like asteroids” <- HOT line! Yeah, for those readin’ this right now, listen to Savage: “be quick to call Savage for a hit and a hook” <- TRUST ME, IT’LL WORK!! It DEFINITELY iz workin’ for Savage and this review! My Rating: 4.2

    06. “We N’ Dis Bitch”
Looks like another club banger and another High AL for me. Definitely lookin’ forward again, ESPECIALLY since it’s long @ 4 miinutes, 36 seconds! >>> Good intro start. Lovin’ tha beat again! Wait this iz familiar to me. *Pauses tha track and looks to find when and where I reviewed it…* *While lookin’, a “text message intermission from DeTrane* He wanted to know if I liked “Jigg City Radio Vol. 2”, and I did. Now back to lookin’ for this review… Okay I found it. It was tha second thing that came to mind. This was Track No. 3 on tha “Uptown All-Stars Vol. 2” mixtape (which I still don’t have a tracklisting to). It was tha 1st Savage beat I officially heard on January 26, 2008 (when I reviewed it)! This iz what I said in that review: Savage on tha beat! Props to Savage producing! This must be tha first song I heard him produce that I know of! It sounds real good and real good hook too! Yeah real good hook. <- I still don’t have much to say after that review ‘cause this song iz just HOT! That FUCKIN’ HOOK iz OFF THA HOOK!!! I’m gonna increase my original rating (4.5) by 0.1 ‘cause I now know more about it, and it’s STR8 UP FIYA!!! My Current Rating: 4.6

½time: A perfect mixtape so far as I love every song (since each one has at least a 4.0 rating). Savage be KILLIN’ IT! DOIN’ IT BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!

    07. “Until Then” Feat. Jody Breeze & Lil’ Wayne
Iz this an offical collaboration (and not a sample)?!? It looks REAL, REAL, REAL TIGHT!!! VERY HIGH AL, and DEFINITELY lookin’ forward to hearin’ Jody Breeze again, ESPECIALLY when… … … ”Savage on tha beat!” >>> This iz more of a relaxin’ type of down south beat. I can dig it. Because this kinda reminds me of tha feel of tha “4 Kingz” joint by Young Buck, Pimp C, Young Jeezy & T.I., when Savage came thru wit tha hook, I thought he was Pimp C at first. Pretty good hook. Unexpectically hear Lil’ Wayne on tha 2nd verse. “Passin’ blunts like we pass tha mic” <- That’s right Weezy. “It’s snowin’ money” was a nice line, but “let tha bitch suck my dick, now her throat famous” was a TIGHT line by Weezy! Yes a fuckin’ verse by Savage as well!! Definitely a GREAT collabo! “Interstate hustlaz” My Rating: 4.2

    08. “Gettin’ Money”
I was just about to say… “this looks familiar.” It iz. It played on my iPod during my “shuffle day” at college last Friday. And if I remember, it came on in between REALLY GOOD songs when my iPod was on shuffle, so props on tha luck of Savage! This iz what I wrote from tha review I did for this joint from “Pyrex Radio Vol. 5: Back To The Money”: Love that beat intro (as soon as I heard it)! Of course this iz hot. Great 1st verse, and of course I love tha hook. Yeah that beat iz REALLLLLLLLLLLLLL HARD!!! Can’t doubt Savage! That’s why my anticipation iz alwayz high when I see a Savage joint (especially one by himself)! <- Just by seein’ that, I feel REALLY anticipated to re-hear it!!!!! >>> Yeah that fuckin’ beat intro!! And yeah, tha beat iz now remindin’ me of “ASAP” mixed wit Three 6 Mafia. I still feel tha same as to when I first heard it, so I’m gonna keep tha same rating I kept from that review. And at tha end, I’m glad all those dudes (including you) gettin’ money. My Current Rating: 4.6

    09. “Dat AK”
No production info on this one huh? I have a feelin’ you produced it tho. High AL ‘cause it looks like it’s on tha gangsta tip wit tha “AK” bein’ in tha title! >>> Gotta embrace myself right now… 1st jacked beat. No wonder there’s no production info, lol. Gonna try and be easy on this ‘cause I reviewed somethin’ else wit tha same beat, and shut it off fast after 1 minute, 36 seconds into tha song. This hot tho. That mixtape I reviewed where this beat/flow was jacked was mad boring/not my style. Yeah you “known to handle beef like you a Burger King manager.” See now this iz when tha “jacked beat” songs come in good and in handy. Real tight rhymes by Savage, and this iz tha 9th song on tha mixtape, not tha 1st or one of tha real early ones. Savage was smart about puttin’ it in tha 2nd ½ of tha mixtape. I can dig this. See, at least it’s different. It took a Natureboy Rowe route and switched up tha song style. Tha original iz about hollain’ someone’s name (Bay Bay) in tha club. This iz all about an AK. My Rating: 4.1

    10. “Get ‘Em Supa Sav”
I guess another jacked beat? I only say that ‘cause of no production info? I can’t even picture what it’s gonna be… I hope it’s good… I have no AL. >>> I actually had an idea it was gonna be a JR Writer beat, but I was thinkin’ “Get ‘Em”. This iz tha “Grill ‘Em” beat. Yeah that can be confusing at times, since they were released like 9 months apart. Right at tha end of tha 1st verse, I like tha “pounds” line. That’s a pretty good hook wit tha “get ‘em Supa Sav” repeated back n’ forth. Yeah tha hataz will NOT fuck, or betta not fuck, wit Savage ‘cause as he says, he’s “untamed like lions in a Safari” <- FUCKIN’ tight line!! I’m sorry, but I can’t give this a 4.0 rating or higher. It kinda caught me off guard, but it’s all good. Still was hot. My Rating: 3.9

    11. “Playin’ Games”
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! Gotta say this: BACK TO… … ”Savage on tha beat!” It made my AL RUSH UP, so VERY HIGH AL!!! >>> Soundin’ like a Mannie Fresh type of piano intro. “Hunt ya like it’s Nigga Season” <- real good line Savage! Now tha beat iz remindin’ me more of some ol’ Louisiana type of gangsta muzik. Not bad hook on a first listen. You mentioned DJs wantin’ to be paid to play your record. Shit, wheneva I hit a fuckin’ club… wheneva… I will DEFINITELY play some Savage shit! Damn, I can’t fuckin’ wait to get all them exclusives out there to clubs worldwide!! Time will come… I just don’t know when… You ended tha 2nd verse wit a real tight line: “do niggaz like a hair-liner, and make ya ass shape up!” <- REAL tight, and keepin’ it real, or should I say “trill.” “You ain’t on Survivor” <- That line that you just said iz why I’m doin’ this review early. It’s ‘cause my rappin’ grandma iz watchin’ Survivor right now (from 8-9 PM), and when she’s done, I’m hoping we can vocalize her debut single. It’s 8:46 PM right now, so it’s almost Survivorless time for her. My Rating: 4.4

    12. “What’s Good Nigga”
Really like tha title. Minus tha word “nigga”, it’s tha No. 1 thing I say, and when I spell it, for some reason I spell it “watz good”. I dunno; that’s just me. But since there’s no information info, I predict a “Hood Nigga” beat. Will I be right? … … … >>> All that mixin’ in tha beginning had me anticipatin’ if I was right, and yes I was. Yeah I really like that hook. Yeah Savage, you “look like a million” and yeah, that’s what you’re worth IMO. You’re such a REAL GOOD producer! I’m so fuckin’ glad you’re wit Trill Ent. and reppin’ Louisiana. I just fuckin’ love Louisiana. But this joint iz nice and jammin’, but not a 4.0 or higher rating for me. My Rating: 3.7

    13. “Lemme Get Behind Dat”
Aight last joint produced by Savage. I’m real glad you produced 70% of this mixtape. High AL, and not knowing what to expect, so that could be good… >>> That mixin’ again iz gettin’ me real anticipated! That dude in tha beginning sounds like Mr. Collipark. This iz tha type of Louisiana music I’d hear here and there wit tha beat and tha vibe when it comes to a type of song that’s a single. This iz aight. I guess because it reminds me of a single a lot, I don’t feel it as much as all tha other shit on here. My Rating: 3.8

Overall: End Time: 8:56 PM. Wow it took me 91 minutes (an hour and a ½ and a minute) to do that (for only 13 songs). I took that long ‘cause I was focusin’ on quoting a lot of those TIGHT lines on here. Anyway Savage, you DEFINITELY put a TIGHT mixtape out wit DJ Chill! DEFINITELY throwin’ this shit on my iPod!! Keep doin’ yo ma’fuckin’ thang, and I’ll DEFINITELY keep supportin’ ya to tha fullest! We definitely gotta meet and work in tha studio one day in tha future. I know it’ll happen. I’m so fuckin’ glad I got to listen to/get/review somethin’ full of Savage productions!!!!!

Re: Savage & DJ Chill Presents "Building The Foundation" Review

Yea I fuck with this mixtape, Sav def got skills on the boards and on the mic. Is Sav signed to Trill? Cause they should be puttin' more time into him instead of 3 Deep(just my opinion though) ...

Off topic, but somebody on here had upped a song like a year or so ago that I was really feelin'. I think it was between JEDI or Mayor BHZ(or whatever his name is ). Or it was that Untamed Gitz dude I just remember in a thread we were goin' back and forth(e-arguin') about somethin' in a thread and then they upped a track I was dggin', and that was the end of our differences()

Props to Frankie on the review/s too(this one, and the other 2,000 you've done over the years)

Yeah he's signed to Trill. I think Shell of 3Deep should do a solo project. And yeah, they should focus on Savage more.
