View Full Version : Your favorite samples...
I've done this in DDRT a while back...so I'm bringing it here...
Anyways, we all know that soul influenced Hip Hop a lot...especially when it first started, and throughout the 2000s, about 89.9% (relax, I made it up :lol) of the game used them, especially for 1st or 2nd singles.
What are some of your favorite samples? Name the song, artist, and who they sampled it from.
I guess I'll start it off then :lol :(
- Hear The Song (Freeway) - When You Cry (Chic)
I like Free's version better than Nas' Just A Moment
- Blueprint (Jay-Z) - Free At Last (Al Green)
- You're Gonna Love Me (Backwuds) - And I Am Telling You (Jennifer Holiday)
- Breakadawn (De La Soul) & Baby (Fabolous) - I Can't Help It (Michael Jackson)
- Letter To My Unborn (2 Pac) & Keep On (MC Lyte) - Liberian Girl (Michael Jackson)
- 1 Night (Z-Ro...*pause*) - If Only For One Night (Luther Vandross)
I'll come back with more later...

Here's just some random joints:
Song: Space's 'Deliverance'
Used For: De La Soul's 'Rock Co. Kane Flow'
Reason: Because nobody else would have even thought to make this beat and nobody can recreate this shit. Plus the shit is disco, so when that beat comes on you just feel like dancing or some shit. :tu
Song: Seals and Crofts 'Sweet Green Fields'
Used For:Busta Rhyme's Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See
Reason: When the song comes on...you get the feeling like something ill is gonna happen. Great find, great use.
Song: Gap Mangione 'Diana In The Autumn Wind'
Used For: Slum Village's Fall-N-Love/Jaylib's Official
Reason: Both sample usages are from the first 40 seconds or so, and couldn't be more different...one is a soulful laid back type track and one is just a straight up banger.
Song(s): Stanley Cowell's 'Equipoise' and 'Travelin' Man'
Used For: Pharcyde's 'On The DL'
Reason: Two songs on one album, parts of which were used for the verse and hook respectively...somehow when they were put together, it was the next soulful track on 'Bizarre Ride...' after 'Passing Me By'.

NBA on TNT Theme Song (I think that's it)
Slugga - Rookie of the Year
As I Lay Dying - (I forgot the track name)
Sutter Kain - Hezbellah
Geggy Tah - Driving in my Car
Clipse - Sips on the world??? (mixtape track)
???? - Pomp and Circumstance (graduation song)
Max Minelli - Hustla High
Anything with "Art of Noise - Moments in Love"
Not a sample how you're meaning it here, but I thought it was cool how on Soulja Slim's "You Hear Dat" all the drums are gunshots.
Someone sampled the Mortal Kombat theme song somewhere, but I can't remember where I heard it
....man, I used to have a list of good ones somewhere, but I wouldn't know where it is now.
Porno Movie (Three 6 Mafia) - The Lady In My Life (Michael Jackson)
Although I think Hey Lover is one of the best "female" songs of all time...I liked how Three 6 sampled it better.
...and of course Three 6's Late Night Tip...which sampled Lisa Fischer's Ease The Pain...they sampled a lot of good shit.
