With the recent convictions of T.I., Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane, it’s clear to see that the sun is setting on the current of dirty south hip-hop. With the main stays of the south locked up, the streets are thirsty and looking for something fresh and new, enter Travis Porter. Travis Porter, a group consisting of 3 members, has been making noise in Atlanta for a while now since the release of “All The Way Turnt Up”. With the re-release of their “I’m A Differenter 2” mixtape, hosted by DJ Teknikz, the group began to slowly takeover the streets. Now the trio is back to solidify their spot as the hottest new artists in the south, but this time they’re not along. With the backing of DJ Teknikz and an assist from fellow up-and-coming rapper Waka Flocka Flame, we have “Streets R Us”. With the vast majority of the tracks being produced by relatively unknown producers, the sound is a new and fresh.
On “Bananas” the group is once again getting the club turnt up. If this isn’t the definition of a club banger I don’t know what is. “Waffle House” featuring Waka Flocka Flame is a ode to leaving the club after a long night of partying and taking the party straight to the hood’s favorite breakfast spot. If you’ve ever been to a waffle house after leaving the club you’re sure to love this track. The Travis Porter portion of the mixtape features almost all club bangers with the exception of a few tracks and of those tracks the majority of those are aimed towards their female fans, so it creates a perfect balance for Travis Porter fans and supporters. Not to be out done though is So Icy Ent. rookie Waka Flocka Flame. With the buzz created by his hit single “O Let’s Do It” Waka Flocka is back to once again flex his muscle. On “Flexxin” Waka, joined by label mates Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman, preaches about having money, making it rain, and flexing, sounds like typical dirty south rap right, but there’s a slight difference. The energy that Waka Flocka Flame provides on every track and the way he delivers his flow makes you want to listen to ever word he’s saying and that’s a good positive for an artist like Waka. Another standout Waka Flocka Flame track is “Southside Anthem”. Waka delivers a sure fire club banger with this one and I guarantee it will have the clubs screaming “Ain’t Gon Have That”.
With Coach Tek running the perfect offense “Streets R Us” is a perfectly balanced mixtape. Props.
