Catching Up
Technology is changing the entire world not just the entertainment industry. In 10-15 years,
if you are not familiar with the basic functions of a computer and mobile devices, you will be considered functionally illiterate.
As an artist, producer, manager, up-and-coming label, you need to get in tune with the rest of the world.
It’s one thing to not have a use for tools and gadgets that dominate the airwaves and many of our daily lives.
It is a completely different scenario to selectively ignore the tools that arise in your daily conversation with the world.
The struggle to remain relevant as an artist in a new music climate has allowed what used to be websites like worldstarhiphop, vladtv, and Onsmash among others into online powerhouses that have quickly established themselves as a voice of authority within the hip hop community.
As digital music sales continue to take up a larger piece of the pie, the question is: where does this leave you?
On which side of the digital discussion do you actually sit? Are you actively learning about the new tools and technologies or are you sitting back and not taking the necessary steps?
Are you taking the necessary time needed to put together a strategy to reach your fans in new ways?
In today’s digital music business, the tools to market and promote are placed in the hands of the artist. Your career is in your hands. What you don’t know will most definitely hurt you in the new digital music business.
