Lil R.O.B

Lil R.O.B a 24 year old artist from Miami, FL has seen his share of up’s and downs. He has been signed to No Good’s (Ballin’ Boy) label, which did not work out, but he ended up starting his own label, Moe Foe Ent. Now in control of his destiny, he looks to become one of the next big acts out of Miami, FL.

WordofSouth.com: Currently with sales declining and majors not signing anyone, for someone who isn’t signed, what drives you to wanting to continue rapping for a career?

Lil R.O.B: Well for me I love music always have and always will, and I know I have what it takes to really make it in the industry. My surroundings is what really drive me to succeed because where I come from there isn’t a lot of second chances.

WordofSouth.com: So right now, where would you say that your career is at? Do you know what exactly needs to be done right now?

Lil R.O.B: As of right now I’m just out grinding making music trying to promote my indie label MOE FOE ENT, and my up and coming mixtape "I AM DA STREETZ"  Yes I have to get my name  out in the air, network and just keep continuing to grind because if you don’t grind you don’t shine.

WordofSouth.com: What inspired you to start rapping?

Lil R.O.B: Coming from Miami, we only had Uncle Luke and TRICK, so I’m watching the Naan Nigga video and seen a couple of my homeboys in it and I was like man I want to be on the big screen as well. So I started playing around free styling and then began to write lyrics here and there but once I put my all into it was a rap. So you can say I was inspired by my city.

WordofSouth.com: Back then to now, other than the obvious mainstream exposure to Miami, how would you say it has grown rap wise?

Lil R.O.B: It has grown tremendously; right now, it’s a Miami movement! DJ Khaled has put together something special down here. We have up and coming artist like myself that are really making a name for us as well as Miami as a whole. Right now you have people that wouldn’t even think about visiting Miami have bought homes down here.

WordofSouth.com: Is it good to be independent and from Miami right now?

Lil R.O.B: Yes! Being independent and CEO is a plus because I’m the boss! All I need is a real good distribution deal and MOE FOE will be at another level. Being from Miami is also a plus right now, we as in Miami are the best, and the whole world knows it. Everyone has their time to shine and right now, it’s our time!

WordofSouth.com: Do you remember the first beat that you rapped on?

Lil R.O.B: Yea it was a track my homeboy had sampled from 2pac so in all due respect the track was called raised as thugs. R.I.P to one of the greatest rappers ever.

WordofSouth.com: Now in sports people always talk about reaching their peak. Do you feel that you have reached your peak or do you see room for improvement with your music?

Lil R.O.B: Oh yeah there’s always room for improvement but I do feel as if I’m better then I’ve ever been. I’ve grown a lot as an artist as well as a businessman I take heed to what my elders tell me, being only 24 I’ve been through a lot.

WordofSouth.com: How would you describe your style?

Lil R.O.B: I’m from the south so I have that southern swagger. I don’t sound like no one but me.

WordofSouth.com: Over the years, has your style changed at all?

Lil R.O.B: Yes, every artist has to find himself and let’s just say I’ve found myself…

WordofSouth.com: When the group No Good approached you, what were you and your partner’s first reaction?

Lil R.O.B: We were like yeah finally all of our hard work has paid off. We just had performed at club Cristal and they liked the performance and the crowd’s reaction and asked were we currently signed with anyone our answer was no and the next day we were at the studio center recording a track with them.

WordofSouth.com: What were the reasons for your departure from them?

Lil R.O.B: As everyone knows No Good had the number 1 song on billboard "BALLIN BOY" for a couple of weeks and everything was looking real good, until one day they called us up and were like the record label folded and we don’t want to hold you guys so y’all go ahead and do your own thing. So that’s when I formed Moe Foe.

WordofSouth.com: What are some learning experiences positive and negative that you can take away from that situation?

Lil R.O.B: On a positive note, if you want it you have to go and get it. Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do this or you can’t do that. Just stay focused and put GOD first and your dreams can become a reality. Just look at me. Don’t believe everything you hear and just because you may think you are in a good situation don’t just lay down and settle for that you have to keep grinding and explore different avenues.

WordofSouth.com: Why did you decide to form your own label?

Lil R.O.B: After forming MOE FOE and the streets was liking what we were putting out it was a no brainer. I’m talking about everybody in G-town Goulds Fla was running around talking about us. We had made an anthem Welcome to Miami all the underground stations were playing it supporting us and everything we did. At ever party u can believe you had Lil Gits running around with MOE FOE shirts the dude that pressed the shirts up called me and was like we have 50 dudes here saying their apart of Moe Foe, well that wasn’t true but I told him if he’ll go half on the profit go ahead and print the shirts up. So let’s just say I got paid that day!

WordofSouth.com: Many artists release mixtapes and it is sometimes hard to keep up with the amount that you are handed at clubs or events. Are you doing anything different to make sure that you are heard?

Lil R.O.B: Yea right now, I’m working with different DJ’S I just started to use this one particular company for email blasts and that’s working out real good. A lot of Dj’s want me on their mixtapes and that’s a good look for me as well as them. Also, I’ve done a couple of interviews and once again, I appreciate you letting me be a part of history. Word of South

WordofSouth.com: Do you currently have a track that you are pushing hard?

Lil R.O.B: Yes and its self titled "I AM DA STREETZ" because that’s where I come from,

WordofSouth.com: Is it a radio friendly track? If so, have you approached radio in your city?

Lil R.O.B: Yea once I clean it up, I believe it will get played all over the country. I have a couple of Dj’s spinning it and their getting some real good reviews on it. I’m just looking for the right situation to arise and with the help of the lord, the world will know about MOE FOE!

WordofSouth.com: So tell me more about the mixtape that you are putting together. Will it be industry beats or your own production?

Lil R.O.B: It will be a mixture of both I have some hungry producers that’s really talented and ready to make it happen with me. This mixtape isn’t just a mixtape it’s me my work and my craft.

WordofSouth.com: When will it be released?

Lil R.O.B: It will be released in November around Thanksgiving. Reason being, because I thank the lord for giving me an opportunity not just at this rap game but for life itself. Then I have MOE FOE APHILIATES coming out in Jan. The floodgates have officially been open!

WordofSouth.com: Is there anything else that you want to mention?

Lil R.O.B: Yea first and foremost I’ll like to thank WORDOFSOUTH.COM for this opportunity to let the whole world know about me. I’ll also like to thank my management MoeFoeEnt. The whole Moe Foe Aphiliates, Dade County Goulds (G-TOWN) Get Right or Get Left Cutz (STEVE) And University Of Miami (DA U) y’all boys do y’all thing..
